THE SEMBENE PROJECT

Senegalese filmmaker and writer Ousmane Sembene, one of cinema's greatest directors, is featured in a dossier in Framework's latest issue, FW 61-2, guest edited by Samba Gadjigo, Sembene's executor and a Framework advisory board member. The dossier features some of Sembene's never before published poetry and a 1974 interview, newly translated into English, along with essays on his work. Gadjigo with Jason Silverman directed the 2015 documentary Sembene!  and are now orchestrating the remarkable The Sembene Project, whose "goal is to preserve African cinema and culture and make it available to Africans both on the continent and in the diaspora.”
